Math:
Unit 4 was wrapped up this week and a test will be taken next week. The next unit is on telling time!
Science and Social Studies:
We are doing Social Studies right now and have begun our "Economics" unit as we begin to think Kid Town! This is such a fun time for the 2nd graders---surely a highlight of the year!
Reading:
We are diving right into Reader's Workshop this year! The students are learning how to find books that are a good fit for them as well as learning new strategies to help them better comprehend and become more fluent and accurate readers. Many of them are growing already and are moving up in their levels.
The students have been busy this week learning about plot and about how to retell a story and it's plot.
Don't forget those purple reading slips! 20 minutes a night is encouraged 5 times a week! The BEST way for the children to become stronger readers is to practice! If you can't find a purple sheet or don't seem to have enough...any paper with written minutes on it is fine. Thank you!

Writing:
The 2nd graders are loving the Writer's Workshop that we do most days. They have now had 4 Writer's Celebrations! The students are currently working on revising all of the pieces in their writer's journals. They are working on things such as: adding details, adding dialogue, fixing capitals and spelling as well as changing their beginnings! These writing pieces are BEAUTIFUL!
Bible:
We are moving into the New Testament and learning about Jesus' ministry here on earth. We have spent the past few weeks talking about Jesus' last days on earth. This week we really focused on Holy Week.
Our Bible memory for the month of April is Matthew 28:1-10. Remember to be practicing this with your child at home. You may email me the amount of helps that your child has if he/she chooses to say it to you. Some of your children have already said it to me at school so check their Friday Folder for the slip!
